The CDP-controlled company continues its growth path with achievements and new agreements, from cruising to technological research
From cruise ships to research projects, September provided further evidence of the Italian group’s leadership in shipbuilding. Viking Sun and Little Rock, two Fincantieri ships delivered respectively to Viking Ocean Cruises and the United States Navy, are outstanding examples of the company’s success. Viking Sun is the fourth of a series of eight cruise ships, built according to the latest navigation regulations and equipped with the most modern energy- saving technology.
Little Rock’s construction is part of LCS, one of the naval shipbuilding programs of the US Navy. Fincantieri Marinette Marine,a Fincantieri subsidiary, and Lockheed Martin Corporation, a world leader in defense, were involved in its construction.
Fincantieri’s engineering achievements are accompanied by a number of new major agreements including the contract with Silversea Cruises for the building of a new luxury cruise ship, and the Memorandum of Agreement with Carnival Corporation for the realization of a passenger ship for its Cunard luxury brand.
Fincantieri is also distinguished in the field of technological research. Last month, it announced the participation in the SIDRAN project, through its subsidiary Fincantieri Oil & Gas, a research and development initiative in Maritime Technologies, alongside Arsenal and the University of Trieste. Innovation is the key to this project. SIDRAN will develop a highly interactive integrated system that, thanks to virtual reality technologies, will make Naval Design Review more effective and efficient.
