CDP takes part in European Mobility Week

Cassa Depositi e Prestiti is taking part in European Mobility Week, promoted by the European Commission from 16 to 22 September, which this year focuses on the theme of sustainable public mobility. The initiative is an opportunity to underline CDP's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility, both among employees and, through its financing activities for enterprises and public administration bodies.  

Participation in the 20th European Mobility Week is part of the broad framework of initiatives to develop sustainable urban mobility and public transport, which has mobilised €144 million (of which €14 million for cycling in 2022) for 83 public entities and 6 enterprises. In addition, since 2020, CDP has supported public administration bodies with advisory activities, for a total investment of €7.6 billion, of which around €5.5 billion was invested in 2022.

Among the various operations carried out between 2022 and 2023, the following are of note:

• the sustainable efficiency of the vehicles of the Emilia-Romagna public transport company TPER. The entire bus fleet is being replaced with low-emission vehicles and the associated electric and hydrogen charging infrastructure is being built.
• the financing of Duferco Energia S.p.A for the expansion of the national network of ultra-fast charging points for electric vehicles with the addition of around 1,800 new charging points, located mainly in central and northern Italy, with the aim of promoting the energy transition;
• the agreement with Autostrade per l'Italia and Eni to decarbonise the Italian motorway network through sustainable mobility initiatives such as the installation of photovoltaic parks and electric charging points on motorways, the creation of energy communities to promote collective self-consumption initiatives and circular economy initiatives such as the recycling of used tyres into sustainable products;
• the construction of more than 2,000 ultra-fast charging points for electric vehicles in Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Slovenia and Greece to create one of the largest high-speed charging networks in Europe by 2025, funded by the company BeCharge in partnership with the European Investment Bank (EIB);
• the funding provided to the Municipality of Alba Adriatica for the redevelopment and modernisation of the cycle and pedestrian path on the Marconi waterfront, which is of central importance to the city, underlining the strategic role that the waterfront plays in the urban framework. The works also involved the redevelopment of public green spaces and the construction of a rainwater collection network for the cycle and pedestrian path;
• the construction of a municipal “Eco Info Point” to promote electric mobility, bike sharing and pedestrian paths.
• technological upgrading and modernisation of regional railway lines including the Parma-Suzzara-Poggio Rusco and Sassuolo-Reggio Emilia-Guastalla lines with funding from FER - Ferrovie Emilia Romagna. These investments are aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and reducing travel times and CO2 emissions;
• the development of the Villoresi-Monte Grappa-Capolinea tramway, which will facilitate the connection between key regional attractions, according to the forecasts of the Municipality of Limbiate development plans.

In addition, CDP believes it is essential to encourage sustainable mobility choices among its own people. Initiatives include the installation of electric vehicle charging points, changing rooms with showers, bicycle and scooter parking at offices, loans for the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles, a package of contracts for the rental of electric scooters and an annual contribution towards public transport season tickets.

CDP's focus on sustainable mobility continues on 5 October, when the National Sharing Mobility Observatory is due to present the results of its annual research at the Sustainable Mobility Conference at CDP headquarters in Via Goito. The event is organised in collaboration with the Foundation for Sustainable Development, of which CDP is a member, in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and with the support of the European Commission.
