Cassa Depositi e Prestiti has agreed a €6 million loan to support the growth in Italy of Paperdì, one of the country’s leading players in the tissue-paper sector. The main objectives of the expansion project – as set out in the Campania-based company’s 2022-2024 strategic plan – are to increase the production capacity and energy efficiency of its plants.
CDP’s support will make it possible to build new production lines and a photovoltaic system at the San Nicola La Strada plant, cutting energy usage by around 30% from current levels. Paperdi also plans to install a cogeneration plant at the Pietramelara paper mill. When the facility is fully operational, the company will be able to meet all of its energy and steam needs for paper drying exclusively from the combustion of methane gas. The plan makes innovation and energy efficiency a direct driver of rising production and revenues, improving Paperdi's competitive positioning on the Italian market.
The loan is in line with the priorities of CDP’s Strategic Guidelines on the Energy Transition, as set out in its 2022-2024 Strategic Plan, improving the efficiency of production processes and developing renewable energy sources, with a major focus on companies that combine sustainability and technological innovation.
Launched in 1989, Paperdì historically specialised on products for professional use, but has expanded over time into domestic products. With a vertically integrated process, Paperdì is active both in the production of semi-finished paper products derived from the processing of cellulose fibres at its Pietramelara and Arzano (NA) plants, and in the transformation into finished products for sanitary uses at its paper conversion plant in San Nicola La Strada (CE).
