Arianna Traviglia is the Director of the Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia – IIT in Venice.
In her work she uses new technologies - computer vision, artificial intelligence and hyperspectral technologies - to help preserve and protect vulnerable national and international artistic heritage.
She oversees projects such as the digitalisation of cultural heritage to create “digital libraries”, the identification of works that have been stolen and put up for sale on the internet and the new “Cultural Landscapes Scanner” project, a collaboration between IIT and ESA to identify as-yet unknown archaeological sites.
A History graduate from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice with a specialist qualification in Archaeology and a research doctorate in Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems, Traviglia’s career path has taken her to the United States and also subsequently to Australia, where she spent nine years at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University.
